Installation and Technical Tips

• Overcoming the Rust Ridge: On high-mileage trucks, a rust ridge often forms on the inner drum of the rotor. If the rotor is stuck, use the star-wheel adjuster through the access hole on the backing plate to contract the shoes inward. This creates the necessary clearance to pull the rotor off without damaging the internal springs.

• Hardware Replacement: The hold-down clips and return springs in these systems are prone to corrosion and losing tension. We strongly recommend installing a new Parking Brake Hardware Kit at the same time to ensure the shoes retract properly and do not drag against the drum.

• The "Click" Adjustment: Once the new shoes are installed, adjust the star wheel until the rotor can just barely slide over the shoes. There should be a very slight "drag" when rotating the hub by hand. This ensures immediate parking brake engagement and prevents excessive pedal travel.

• Clean the Drum: Use brake cleaner and a wire brush to remove rust and old friction dust from the inner drum surface of the rotor before installing the new shoes. A clean surface is essential for the "static bite" required to hold a heavy truck on a hill.
