Installation and Technical Tips

• Internal Drum Cleaning: Before installing the new shoes, use a dedicated brake cleaner to remove all soot, dust, and grease from the internal "hat" of the rear rotor. Contamination on the drum surface is the most common cause of a weak parking brake.

• Adjuster Service: While the shoes are removed, clean and lubricate the star-wheel adjuster with a small amount of high-temperature brake grease. Seized adjusters make it impossible to properly tension the shoes, leading to a "loose" parking brake pedal or lever.

• Hardware Inspection: Inspect the return springs and hold-down pins for signs of heat damage or rust. If the springs have lost their tension, the shoes may drag against the drum while driving, causing overheating and premature wear.

• Initial Bedding: Once installed, perform a basic adjustment so the shoes just barely clear the drum. It is recommended to apply the parking brake lightly while moving at a very low speed (under 5 mph) a few times to "seat" the new friction material to the drum's curvature.
