Installation and Technical Tips
Surface Cleaning: New drums are shipped with a protective oil coating to prevent rust. It is essential to thoroughly clean the internal friction surface with a dedicated brake cleaner before installation to ensure proper shoe grip.
Hardware Inspection: When installing new drums, inspect the brake shoes, return springs, and wheel cylinders. Weak springs or leaking cylinders can cause uneven wear or premature failure of your new drums.
Manual Adjustment: After installation, use the access hole to adjust the star wheel until the shoes just barely drag against the drum. This ensures proper pedal height and balanced braking between the front and rear axles.
Lug Nut Torque: Always tighten wheel lugs to the factory-recommended torque in a star pattern. Improper or uneven tightening can distort the drum, leading to a "warped" sensation even with new components.
