Installation and Technical Tips

  • Verify System Type: Many 2011–2014 F-150 models utilize Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) which does not use hydraulic hoses. This part is strictly for vehicles equipped with Hydraulic Power Steering, typically found on the 6.2L V8 and heavy-duty configurations.

  • System Bleeding: After replacing the hose, you must bleed the air from the system. With the front wheels off the ground, turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock 20–40 times without the engine running to prevent foaming, then repeat with the engine running.

  • Check the Cooler: Inspect the power steering cooler fins for debris or damage while the hose is disconnected. A clogged cooler can cause excessive backpressure, leading to premature failure of the new return line.

  • Fluid Specification: Use only the Ford-recommended fluid (typically Mercon V or specialized Power Steering Fluid). Using the incorrect fluid can cause the CSM rubber to swell or deteriorate prematurely.
