Installation and Technical Tips

  • Proper Tooling: You must use a professional Power Steering Pulley Puller and Installer tool set. Attempting to use a standard "jaw" puller or a hammer will result in a bent pulley or a damaged power steering pump shaft and internal seals.

  • Installation Depth: Press the pulley onto the pump shaft until the hub face is perfectly flush with the end of the shaft. Even a small offset can cause the serpentine belt to walk off the tracks or squeal due to misalignment.

  • Belt Condition: Always inspect the serpentine belt for cracks, glazing, or "chunking" while it is removed. A damaged belt will not seat properly on a new pulley and should be replaced to ensure system longevity.

  • Shaft Cleaning: Before pressing on the new pulley, ensure the pump shaft is clean and free of rust or burrs. A light film of clean power steering fluid on the shaft can assist with a smoother press-fit installation.
