Power Steering Pressure Switch

Precision Engine Idle Control for Ford, Lincoln, Mazda, and Mercury Vehicles

Restore your vehicle's engine stability and smooth handling with this Power Steering Pressure Switch. This essential sensor monitors the hydraulic pressure within the power steering system and communicates directly with the Engine Control Unit (ECU). During low-speed maneuvers—such as parallel parking or tight turns—the power steering pump places a significant load on the engine. This switch detects the pressure increase and signals the ECU to adjust the idle speed, preventing the engine from stumbling, surging, or stalling.

Built with high-quality brass threads and a heat-resistant composite housing, this switch is designed to withstand the high-pressure environment of the steering system. It serves as a direct-fit replacement for the factory unit, ensuring a leak-free seal and reliable electrical connectivity.

Fitment Verification and Vehicle Applications

This pressure switch supports an extensive range of Ford Motor Company and Mazda platforms across several decades:

Installation and Technical Tips

  • Diagnostic Symptom: If your engine RPM drops or the vehicle stalls only when you are turning the steering wheel while stopped or moving slowly, this switch has likely failed and is no longer signaling the ECU to compensate for the pump load.

  • Leak Protection: When installing, ensure the mounting surface is clean. Use a backup wrench on the power steering line (if applicable) to avoid bending the metal tubing while tightening the new switch.

  • Electrical Check: Inspect the harness connector for power steering fluid contamination. If fluid has leaked into the plug, clean it thoroughly with electrical contact cleaner to ensure a proper signal.

  • Torque Caution: Brass threads are softer than the steel lines they mount into. Tighten the switch until snug to compress the seal, but avoid over-torquing to prevent stripping the threads or cracking the sensor body.
