Installation and Technical Tips
Internal Access: To replace the tail light on a 2012–2015 Prius, you must open the rear hatch and remove the plastic access panels located within the cargo area trim. A 10mm deep socket is usually required to reach the mounting nuts behind the body panel.
Electrical Test: Before fully securing the new unit with the mounting nuts, plug in the electrical harness and cycle through your light functions—check the LED brake lights, turn signals, and reverse lights to ensure the connection is seated properly.
Foam Gasket Seating: This assembly includes a foam perimeter gasket designed to keep water out of your trunk. Ensure the gasket is flat and free of debris before tightening; a pinched gasket can lead to moisture buildup in the spare tire well.
Gentle Torquing: Hand-tighten the mounting nuts until the foam gasket is compressed against the body. Avoid using high-torque power tools, as excessive pressure can crack the plastic mounting studs on the new housing.
