Installation and Technical Tips

  • Shaft and Knob Transfer: To install this switch, you must reuse the metal shaft and knob from your original unit. To release the old shaft, locate the spring-loaded release button on the side of the switch housing. Depress this button while pulling the knob out to remove the assembly.

  • Inspect the Connector: Before plugging in the new switch, inspect your factory wiring harness for signs of melting or discoloration. In many older vehicles, high resistance in the headlight circuit can cause the connector to overheat; if damage is present, the harness should be replaced to prevent damaging the new switch.

  • Rheostat Maintenance: If your dashboard lights are intermittent, it is often due to the coil on the switch becoming dirty or worn. This new unit eliminates those "dead spots" and flickering issues.

  • Power Warning: The main power feed to the headlight switch remains "hot" (energized) even when the ignition is turned off. Always disconnect the negative battery cable before performing work behind the dashboard to prevent accidental electrical shorts.
