Installation and Technical Tips

• Alignment is Essential: Because the steering knuckle is the central mounting point for your strut and lower control arm, your vehicle’s alignment will be disturbed during installation. A professional four-wheel alignment is required immediately following the repair to prevent uneven tire wear.

• Axle Spline Prep: Before inserting the CV axle into the new hub, clean the axle splines with a wire brush and apply a light coat of high-temperature anti-seize. This prevents the metal from bonding due to salt and road debris, simplifying future service.

• Torque to Spec: Use a calibrated torque wrench for the axle nut, caliper bracket bolts, and ball joint castle nuts. Correct torque on the axle nut is vital for setting the internal preload on the wheel bearing; improper torque is the leading cause of premature bearing failure.

• Hardware Inspection: While the knuckle is removed, inspect the condition of your lower ball joints and outer tie rod ends. Since these components must be disconnected to install the knuckle, it is the most cost-effective time to replace them if the boots are torn or play is present.
