Installation and Technical Tips

• The Subaru Pinch Bolt: On many older models, the pinch bolt that secures the ball joint to the knuckle is prone to seizing due to rust. It is highly recommended to apply a high-quality penetrating oil to the knuckle 24 hours prior to removal.

• Cleaning the Knuckle: Once the old joint is removed, use a wire brush to clean the internal surface of the steering knuckle. This ensures the new ball joint seats properly and prevents binding during installation.

• Torque to Spec: Always use a torque wrench to tighten the pinch bolt and the castle nut. Over-tightening can stress the ball stud, while under-tightening can lead to dangerous suspension play.

• Alignment Check: Any time you replace critical suspension components like ball joints, the front-end geometry is altered. A professional wheel alignment is recommended to ensure your tires wear evenly and the vehicle tracks straight.
