Installation and Technical Tips
Torque to Specification: The axle nut is a critical safety component. Use a calibrated torque wrench to tighten the new 32mm nut to the factory-specified setting. Do not use an impact wrench for final tightening, as excessive force can cause immediate damage to the high-precision wheel bearing.
Seal Inspection: Before inserting the inboard joint into the front drive unit, inspect the output shaft seal for nicks or tears. It is highly recommended to install a fresh seal to prevent gear oil leaks that could compromise the drive unit's lubrication.
Suspension Disassembly: Installation requires partially disconnecting the lower lateral link or the steering knuckle. Ensure all suspension fasteners are torqued to factory specifications once the axle is seated to maintain the vehicle's structural integrity.
Post-Installation Alignment: Because front suspension components are disturbed during this repair, a professional four-wheel alignment is recommended. Proper alignment ensures optimal tire wear and prevents interference with Autopilot and Full Self-Driving sensor calibrations.
