Diesel EGR Cooler Transfer Tube

High-Temp Exhaust Recirculation Pipe for VW 1.9L TDI

This EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) tube is a direct-fit replacement for the often-clogged or cracked factory pipe on Volkswagen 1.9L Diesel engines. Designed to transport exhaust gases from the EGR cooler back into the intake system, this tube plays a critical role in reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and maintaining engine thermal efficiency. Constructed from high-grade stainless steel, it is engineered to withstand extreme exhaust temperatures and the corrosive environment typical of diesel EGR systems.

Fitment Verification and Vehicle Applications

This tube is specifically designed for the 1.9L L4 Diesel (TDI) engine configurations. It connects to the EGR cooler assembly.

  • Volkswagen Beetle: 1998–2006 (1.9L L4 Diesel)

  • Volkswagen Golf: 1999–2006 (1.9L L4 Diesel)

  • Volkswagen Jetta: 1998–2006 (1.9L L4 Diesel)

Technical Specifications and Attributes

Unlike standard plastic or low-grade metal components, this steel tube is designed to handle the high-pressure pulsations of a turbocharged diesel engine.

Product Features

  • Material: Corrosion-resistant Stainless Steel.

  • Configuration: Precision-bent to match factory routing for a stress-free installation.

  • Connection Type: Flanged ends for a secure, airtight seal.

  • Durability: Resistant to thermal expansion cracking and carbon soot buildup.

Industry Cross-Reference Numbers

  • Volkswagen (OE): 038131521E

Installation and Maintenance Tips

  • Code Diagnostic: A cracked or leaking EGR tube often triggers a "Check Engine" light with codes such as P0401 (Insufficient Flow) or P0402 (Excessive Flow). If you notice a whistling sound or the smell of exhaust in the cabin, inspect this tube for soot stains which indicate a leak.

  • Gasket Usage: For a proper seal, always use new metal gaskets at both flange points. Reusing old, compressed gaskets is the most common cause of post-installation exhaust leaks.

  • Hardware Preparation: Because EGR bolts are subjected to extreme heat cycles, they are prone to seizing. Apply a high-quality penetrating oil to the bolts several hours before removal and use anti-seize lubricant on the threads during reassembly.

  • Carbon Inspection: While the tube is removed, inspect the EGR valve and cooler ports for heavy carbon "coking." If the ports are restricted, cleaning them with a dedicated carbon solvent will ensure the new tube functions at maximum efficiency.
