Installation and Technical Tips
Surface Preparation: Achieving a long-lasting bond requires a clinical level of cleanliness. Completely scrape away old rubber and use a high-quality adhesive remover to strip off any remaining factory glue. Sand any rusted areas in the door channel and prime before installing new seals.
Adhesive Application: Use a professional-grade black weatherstrip adhesive. Apply a thin, consistent bead to both the rubber seal and the door channel. Let the adhesive "flash off" (become tacky) for a few minutes before pressing the seal into place.
Mind the Corners: Avoid stretching the rubber as you go around corners. Stretching causes the rubber to thin out and eventually pull away from the adhesive. Instead, "crowd" the rubber slightly into the corners to ensure a relaxed, full fit.
The Settling Process: New seals are significantly thicker than the compressed, 70-year-old rubber they replace. You may need to firmly pull the door shut or adjust your door strikers temporarily. Keep the doors closed as much as possible for the first 48 hours to allow the rubber to take a permanent "set" to your truck's specific alignment.
