Installation and Technical Tips

• Preparation: Before installing the new seal, thoroughly clean the metal pinch-weld on the door frame. Remove any old adhesive, rust, or debris using a wire brush and a mild solvent to ensure a secure, flush seat.

• Seam Placement: Always start your installation at the bottom-center of the door frame. By placing the seam at the bottom, you prevent gravity-fed rainwater from entering through the split and ensure any moisture drains toward the exterior sill.

• The Rubber Mallet Technique: Use a rubber mallet to gently tap the seal onto the pinch-weld. This ensures the internal metal carrier "grips" the frame tightly. Avoid using a metal hammer, as this can deform the internal carrier and damage the EPDM rubber.

• Trimming for Success: Once you have worked the seal entirely around the door frame, leave an extra 1/4 inch of length before making your final cut. Compressing this slight "over-length" into the starting point creates a tighter butt-joint that won't pull apart as the rubber shrinks and expands with temperature changes.

• Setting the Seal: After installation, close the door and leave it latched for 24 to 48 hours. This allows the new, thick rubber to compress and take a "memory" of your specific door's alignment.
