Installation and Technical Tips

  • Safety First: Only attempt installation when the engine is completely cool. The cooling system is pressurized when hot, which can cause the sudden release of scalding fluid if the sensor is removed prematurely.

  • Minimize Fluid Loss: To avoid a large mess and the need for a full system bleed, have the new sensor ready to install immediately upon removing the old one. A "quick swap" method keeps air pockets out of the engine block.

  • Thread Sealant: Most sensors come with a pre-applied sealant or utilize a crush washer. If yours does not, apply a small amount of automotive-grade thread sealant to prevent slow leaks, ensuring you do not cover the sensor tip itself.

  • Electrical Cleaning: Inspect the factory connector for corrosion or "green crust" before plugging in the new sensor. Using a dedicated electronic cleaner can ensure a solid signal to the ECU.
