Installation and Technical Tips

• Disconnect the Battery: Since you are working in close proximity to the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) clockspring and driver-side airbag, always disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait at least 10 minutes before beginning disassembly.

• Steering Shroud Removal: Most Subaru models require the removal of three screws on the underside of the steering column cover. Use a plastic trim tool to separate the upper and lower halves of the shroud to prevent marring the dashboard plastics.

• Clockspring Alignment: When sliding the switch onto the column, ensure you do not snag the clockspring wiring. The clockspring must remain centered to prevent the airbag light from illuminating or the internal ribbon cable from snapping during a full steering lock.
