Installation and Technical Tips
Use a Flare Nut Wrench: To prevent rounding the 10mm brake line fitting, always use a flare nut (line) wrench. These fittings are often seized due to road salt and grime; applying penetrating oil 24 hours before the job can prevent snapping the line.
Mandatory System Bleeding: Any time the hydraulic system is opened, air must be removed. Bleed the brakes starting at the rear passenger side, then the rear driver side, to ensure a firm pedal.
Inspect the Backing Plate: Before mounting the new cylinder, clean the area on the backing plate where the cylinder sits. Any rust buildup here can cause the cylinder to sit at an angle, leading to uneven brake shoe wear or potential leaks.
Replace in Pairs: Hydraulic components typically wear at the same rate. Replacing both rear wheel cylinders simultaneously ensures balanced braking pressure and prevents the need for a second system bleed in the near future.
