Installation and Technical Tips
Battery Service: It is highly recommended to fully charge your battery using an external charger before installing the new alternator. Asking a new alternator to "recover" a completely dead battery can cause the internal voltage regulator to overheat and fail prematurely.
Serpentine Belt Alignment: This unit features a 6-groove pulley. During installation, ensure the belt is perfectly centered in the grooves. Misalignment by even one tooth can cause the belt to shred or put lateral stress on the alternator bearings.
Verify Connections: Inspect the heavy-gauge B+ output cable for any signs of corrosion or heat damage. Mercedes-Benz electrical systems are sensitive to resistance; a clean, tight connection is vital for preventing "Check Battery/Alternator" messages on the instrument cluster.
Torque Specifications: When mounting the alternator to the engine block, ensure the mounting bolts are torqued to factory specifications. Over-tightening can crack the aluminum mounting ears, while under-tightening can lead to excessive vibration.
