Installation and Technical Tips
Battery Disconnect: Before starting the installation, always disconnect the negative battery terminal. This prevents accidental short-circuiting of the main "B+" terminal, which can lead to expensive fuse failures or damage to the vehicle's ECU.
Belt Verification: This alternator features a 7-groove pulley. Before installation, count the ribs on your existing serpentine belt to ensure a proper match. A mismatch in groove count can lead to rapid belt wear and slippage.
Charging Circuit Check: When replacing an alternator, inspect the thick "B+" cable for any signs of heat damage or corrosion at the terminal. A high-resistance connection at the post can cause the new alternator to overheat and fail prematurely.
Battery Recovery: If your old alternator left you stranded with a dead battery, it is highly recommended to slow-charge the battery with an external charger before starting the vehicle with the new alternator. Asking a new alternator to "recover" a deeply discharged battery can put excessive stress on the new internal diodes.
